One of the factors that most determines the success of chili cultivation is soil moisture. Chili plants are very sensitive to soil conditions that are too dry or too wet. In trials carried out in chili gardens, Pezano—which uses porous materials such as biochar—showed a big role in maintaining soil moisture balance.

Retains Water Longer

The porous structure of the material used by Pezano is able to store water in its cavities. When the soil on the surface begins to dry out, the water held in these pores is slowly released so that:

  • The soil does not crack quickly,

  • Chili roots still receive a stable water supply,

  • Plants do not experience sudden wilting in the heat.

This makes watering needs more effective and less wasteful.

Reducing the Risk of Flooding

Not only does it store water, Pezano's pores also help facilitate drainage when it rains. The soil remains moist, but:

  • Does not create muddy conditions,

  • Reduces the potential for root rot,

  • Makes the root area healthier and more ventilated.

This balance makes chili plants safer from root diseases.

Stable Humidity = Calmer Plants

When soil moisture is stable, chili plants do not need “stress” adapt to extreme changes. In this phase you can see:

  • Leaves do not curl quickly,

  • Shoot growth is more active,

  • The stem is stronger.

The stability of the root environment makes the plant focus more on growth, not survival.

Trial Results

In 2–3 weeks of observation, the beds given Pezano appeared to have:

  • The color of the soil is darker and does not harden quickly,

  • Chili roots are longer and spread out,

  • The daily wilting rate is much lower than beds without Pezano.

This shows that the biochar-based material in Pezano is able to create a more ideal soil environment for young chili plants and those that have entered the generative stage.

Conclusion

Pezano's ability to maintain soil moisture naturally makes it very beneficial for chili gardens. The soil is more stable, roots are more comfortable, and plants grow in healthier conditions without having to rely on excessive watering.
