The Pezano Farming Group officially launched the Agriculture ABC (Humic Acid, Biochar and Liquid Organic Fertilizer) program as a concrete step towards sustainable agriculture and climate protection. This program was introduced at a meeting of farmer group members and village community representatives which was warm and full of enthusiasm.

The Chairman of the Pezano Farmers Group, in his speech, said that the ABC Agriculture program was born out of concern about the condition of the soil, which is decreasing in fertility due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers in the long term. In addition, climate change, which is characterized by extreme rainfall and longer dry seasons, is also affecting agricultural productivity.

“Soil is not just a planting medium, but a long-term asset that we must protect. "Through the Humic Acid, Biochar and Liquid Organic Fertilizer approach, we want to restore soil health while contributing to reducing carbon emissions," he said. he said.

Restoring Soil Fertility with Humic Acid

In the ABC program, Humic Acid acts as a fast-acting soil conditioner. This material is known to improve soil structure, increase cation exchange capacity, and help the absorption of nutrients by plant roots. Farmers who have carried out trials over several growing seasons report increased root and leaf growth in a relatively short time.

Humic acid also helps bind nutrients so they are not easily washed away during heavy rain. This condition is very important, especially in areas with high rainfall intensity, so that the fertilizer provided becomes more efficient and is not wasted.

Biochar as a Long-Term Carbon Store

The second component in this program is Biochar, namely biological charcoal resulting from the pyrolysis of agricultural waste such as rice husks and wood twigs. In contrast to ordinary organic materials which decompose quickly, Biochar is able to survive in the soil for tens or even hundreds of years.

The main function of Biochar is not only to improve soil porosity and increase its water holding capacity, but also to store carbon stably in the soil. Thus, the use of Biochar is considered to contribute to climate change mitigation through reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

According to one member of the Pezano Farmers Group, since using Biochar in vegetable and food crop fields, the soil has become looser and does not get muddy easily when it rains. “Water absorbs faster, but moisture is maintained. "Plants also appear to be more resistant during dry seasons," he said. he said.

Liquid Organic Fertilizer for Balanced Nutrition

The third component, Liquid Organic Fertilizer, is formulated from the fermentation of natural ingredients such as livestock manure, vegetable waste and local microorganisms. This fertilizer functions as a source of additional nutrients while enriching beneficial soil microbes.

In the ABC Agriculture system, liquid organic fertilizer is applied periodically through spraying leaves or pouring it into the soil. This approach aims to maintain nutritional balance without damaging the soil ecosystem.

Farmers stated that the combination of these three components provided more stable results than using a single chemical fertilizer.Apart from that, production costs in the long term are considered more efficient because some materials can be produced themselves from local agricultural waste.

Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies

The launch of ABC Agriculture focuses not only on increasing crop yields, but also on climate protection. By utilizing agricultural waste into Biochar and organic fertilizer, the Pezano Farmers Group is helping to reduce the practice of open burning which has been a source of carbon emissions.

This approach also increases land resilience to extreme weather. Soil that is rich in organic matter and Biochar has better water holding capacity during heavy rains and does not dry out quickly during long dry seasons. This is important in facing seasonal uncertainty due to global climate change.

The Pezano Farmers Group plans to hold regular training for farmers in the surrounding area to expand the implementation of ABC Agriculture. They also open up opportunities for collaboration with educational institutions and government agencies to strengthen technical assistance and scientifically measure environmental impacts.

Hopes for the Future

Through the launch of ABC Agriculture, the Pezano Farmers Group hopes to become an example of an environmentally friendly agricultural model that can be replicated in various regions. This program not only targets increasing production, but also the sustainability of the agricultural ecosystem in the long term.

By combining Humic Acid for fast recovery, Biochar for long-term stability, and Liquid Organic Fertilizer for nutritional balance, ABC Agriculture is expected to be able to answer the challenges of the times: increasing productivity without sacrificing the environment.

This launch is proof that innovation does not always have to be expensive or depend on high technology. By utilizing local resources and a spirit of mutual cooperation, farmers can be at the forefront of maintaining food security while protecting the earth from the impacts of climate change.
