This experiment was carried out using biochar produced by Pezona, which is a porous soil improvement material made from the carbonization of organic material. Biochar is known to be able to improve soil structure, increase porosity, and maintain moisture without adding nutrients such as fertilizer. Trials were carried out on chili plantations around 30 days after planting.

1. Chili Leaves Become Stronger and Don't Wilt Easily

After the Pezona biochar is mixed into the soil around the base of the plant:

  • The leaves look thicker,

  • The green color is more even,

  • Plants do not wilt easily even when exposed to the heat of the day.

Because biochar is porous, water from the soil rises and is stored more stably, preventing the leaves from experiencing sudden water shortages.

2. Photosynthesis is More Stable because the Soil Doesn't Dry Out Quickly

Chili plants often experience “stagnant growth” if the soil dries quickly. With the addition of Pezona biochar:

  • Soil retains moisture longer,

  • Leaves are able to absorb light better,

  • Stem and shoot growth is more active.

Biochar does not provide nutrients, but creates ideal soil conditions for stable photosynthesis.

3. Deeper Roots and More Resistant to Soil Pressure

A common problem with chilies is that the roots are shallow and break easily. After adding biochar:

  • Roots grow deeper,

  • Root branches develop more,

  • Roots are stiffer and stronger to withstand the weight of the plant.

Biochar creates micro spaces that make it easier for roots to spread in all directions.

4. Plants Don't Fall Down Easily When It Rains

In the rainy season, dense soil makes it easy for plants to fall. With Pezona biochar:

  • The soil is more loose, not soft,

  • The water drops quickly but remains damp

  • Roots have a stronger grip on the soil.

Chilli become stronger even when hit by wind or heavy rainfall.

5. Smoother Leaves and Less Stress Spots

Biochar helps maintain soil stability so that leaves:

  • Doesn't tear quickly when there is wind,

  • No yellowish spots appear

  • The surface of the leaves looks fresher and shiny.

This shows the plant is in a stable and comfortable medium.

Conclusion

Biochar by Pezona has been proven to help improve chili planting media by:

  • Maintain moisture,

  • Increases soil porosity

  • Supports root growth,

  • Protect plants from extreme weather changes.

Even though it is not a fertilizer, Pezona biochar has a big impact on root strength and leaf health, so that chili plants grow more stably and are better prepared to enter the production phase.
